A GROSS MARGIN COMPARISON OF RETURNS TO NEMATICIDE TREATMENT IN CONTINUOUS AND ROTATION TRITICALE-SOYBEAN PRODUCTION AgEcon
Stark, C. Robert, Jr.; Dowler, C.C.; Johnson, A.W.; Baker, S.H..
A study of irrigated strip-till soybean production compared gross margins over nematicide expense for a continuous triticale-soybean system versus a two-year rotation system alternating triticale-soybean with triticale-cotton. Half of the replicated plots under each system received nematicide treatment. Gross margins were calculated using recorded yields and Georgia average market prices by marketing years. Mean gross margins for untreated plots were not significantly different between crop-sequence systems. Within each system, however, mean gross margins were significantly higher for plots not receiving nematicide treatment versus treated plots, even when treated plots produced greater yields.

Achieving fat score targets: the costs and benefits AgEcon
Graham, Phillip; Hatcher, Sue.
The national Lifetime Wool project has quantified the production benefits that accrue to a breeding flock of Merino ewes from actively managing their fat score at critical stages of the reproductive cycle. The GrassGro™ model was used to simulate the profitability of achieving three fat score targets (i.e. FS2.5, FS3-4% lambing and FS3-10% lambing) for a predominately grazing region (Yass) of NSW and a sheep/cereal region (Parkes). In both regions the FS3-10% flock had the highest gross margin but was also the riskiest option in terms of the variation in gross margin during the simulation period. In all cases the key driver of gross margin was the amount (and therefore cost) of supplement required to meet the fat score targets which highlights the...

Conservation Tillage Assessment for Wheat cropping in the Central Iran: Energetic, economics and environmental aspects (Case Study: Isfahan Province) CIGR Journal
Aliasgarian, Saeed.
Conservation tillage due to some properties such as reduction in time and energy required for seedbed preparation is going to be an unavoidable choice in region with arid and semiarid climate. This research was conducted at Murchehkhort farms, central region of Iran to energetic, economics and environmental evaluation of different tillage systems. The study was planned as a completely randomized block design with three tillage treatments replicated three times. The tillage treatments were: no-tillage (NT): direct drilling, reduced tillage (RT): chisel plow and roller packing as a combined machine followed by a light disking and drilling; and Conventional tillage (CT): moldboard plow followed by two heavy harrow diskings and drilling. NT Compared to CT and...

Cropping intensity vs. profitability of selected plant production activities in Poland AgEcon
Skarzynska, Aldona.
This study shows the impact of cropping intensity on the economic results of plant production in Poland. The real amount of production outlays, which in value terms represents the level of direct costs, was adopted as the intensity measure. The economic results diversification scale is reflected by the level of gross margin and income from management activity, as well as by the production profitability index in the activity types analysed. When using low-intensity, as compared to high-intensity, cropping technologies, the economic results of the activities in question become more favourable. The profitability analysis of various production factors points to a prevalence of agricultural farms with low intensity levels of the activity conducted. Lower...

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to calculate costs of milk production, gross production value, gross margin, absolute profit, and relative profit of dairy cattle farms located in the provinces of east Mediterranean region of Turkey. Primary data were collected from 148 dairy cattle farms designated using the Neyman Stratified Sampling method through surveys. Dairy farms were classified into four groups according to the number of cows. The data belong to the 2012 production season. A single product budget analysis method was used for calculating production costs. According to the results, variable costs amounted to 65.91% of total production costs. Feed cost (86.52%) was the main component of variable costs. The cost of 1 kg of milk, on average, was...

Energy efficiency of pasta waste and its effect on performance, carcass, and economic viability of broilers R. Bras. Zootec.
Santos,Ana Carolina Ferreira dos; Ludke,Maria do Carmo Mohaupt Marques; Ludke,Jorge Vitor; Santos,Jussiede Silva; Viapiana,Juliane Garlet; Rabello,Carlos Bôa-Viagem; Torres,Thaysa Rodrigues; Custódio,Lidiane Rosa.
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to determine the energy value of pasta waste through a metabolism trial and determine the best level of its inclusion in broiler diets. In the metabolism trial, sixty 14-day-old birds were assigned to two treatments (control diet and a diet in which 30% was replaced by the byproduct) with six replicates and five birds per experimental unit. In the performance trial, 525 one-day-old chicks were assigned to treatments consisting of five levels of pasta waste (0, 100, 200, 300, and 400 g kg−1) in the diet, with seven replicates and 15 birds per experimental unit, in a completely randomized design. The phases of up to 7, 21, 35, and 42 days of age were evaluated. At the end, two broilers with average weight were...

Factors of Efficiency Change of Assets on the EU-15 and Hungarian Farms from 1990s AgEcon
Takacs, Istvan; Baranyai, Zsolt; Takacs, Emese.
Efficiency of farm assets is a very important factor of competitive production. It could be in strong correlation with profitability of economic activities. One of the most important factor of the farm assets is the fixed assets, and as a part of it, the equipment as well. An important factor of the farm asset value is the machinery, which depends on the amount of internal resources of farms and external financial resources i.e. governmental subsidies, bank loans. But, as it could be observed during the 1980s and 1990s on the farms of developed countries, the technical development was also a considerable factor of farming. This paper, based on the data of the FADN, and yearbooks of the HCSO, focuses on the investigation of some figures of the European...

Overprice on purchase of replacement cattle and genetic group as variables of economic result in feedlot operations R. Bras. Zootec.
Pereira,Kárito Augusto; Leonel,Fernando de Paula; Reis,Janderson Damaceno dos; Villela,Severino Delmar Junqueira.
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to analyze the economic result of feedlot operation for three genetic groups of cattle (Nellore, Nellore crossing with other Zebuine breeds, and Dairy crossbred) as a function of the overprice on the purchase price of cattle to be feedlot-finished. The study involved data of 57,589 animals divided into 709 lots originating from operation cycles from March to December 2016. Lots were considered replicates, and gross margin per animal was considered the economic result. Data pertaining to each lot, overprice, and gross margin were analyzed by regression, with mathematical models developed for each genetic group. After significance tests were applied, simple linear models were adopted for all studied groups. To check...

RENTABILIDADE DO PLANTIO DIRETO DE GRÃOS EM UNIDADES FAMILIARES NO NORTE DO PARANÁ, BRASIL. AgEcon
Fuentes-Llanillo, Rafael; Soares Junior, Dimas; Carneiro, Sergio Luis; Carvalho, Adenir De; Marcolini, Ciro.
This article evaluated the profitability of the mix of grain crops under no-tillage, in a multiple case analysis of thirteen family enterprises of grains in...
